Other than the two wigs and my nose ring, we were able to put this costume together using items exclusively from our closets. To be fair, it’s not too hard to dress like a late-’80s to early-’90s rock band.
Here are some shots of the real Axl and Slash for comparison:
Axl Rose’s red bandana and Slash’s top hat have been two of the most iconic images in rock music and pop culture, which is what makes this a classic costume idea. But, of course, to fully commit to the costume and attempt to be as authentic as possible, you gotta include all the finer details as well.
Can’t find an “unofficial” red-haired Axl Rose costume wig? No worries. Get yourself a honey-brown women’s wig, like this one from Amazon, and wrap a bandana around your head. Make it a wide fit! Pop on those aviators for extra Axl points.
The plaid shirt tied around the waist was a staple in the ’90s and often seen on Axl. Luckily this trend is enjoying a revival now in today’s style.
Top it off with some high-top sneakers and shorts. Remember: Axl loves to be constantly mobile on stage.
Rock a top hat and curly locks to start off your Slash costume.
For real commitment, the right-nostril nose ring is a nice touch to include in your Slash costume. This one is a clip-on from Amazon.
Polish it off with some hardware. Rings, chains, zippers — whatever you got!
Finally, own the stage with your guitar solos… or these black combat boots will do just fine.
How do you think we did? Do you like to do joint costumes? What are you dressing up as this year? Let’s chat in the comments section below! Have a happy Halloween!
