A giant balloon + glitter + a bicycle pump = an explosive experience I’ll never forget.
I got to put my strength and endurance to the test Wednesday on a live Facebook stream for the CBC show Canada’s Smartest Person. I’ve worked on the digital production side of the show for the past three seasons and have always envied the competitors who got to test themselves in such fun intelligence challenges. Last season I got to try out some of the show challenges but after getting a taste for competition, I wanted more!
This season CSP introduced a weekly Facebook Live show and the headline event is always an action-packed, super-messy physical challenge. So for this week, they brought me on CSP Live to compete in a challenge called “Glitter Bomb” and yes, it’s as epic as it sounds. With two bicycle pumps connected to two giant, glitter-filled balloons, the goal was to pop the balloon first and shower your opponent with glitter!
I faced off against Toronto rapper Illvibe in a glittery battle royale. See how it all went down in the video above. Skip to the 12:30 mark to go straight to the “Glitter Bomb” challenge.
Here are some of the highlights, in GIF form, naturally:
Even though I technically lost, it’s easy to feel like a winner when you’re showered with glitter. I couldn’t help but feel like Sailor Moon in her transformation sequence before fighting evil by moonlight, hence striking her signature pose:
Plus, glitter is basically always in your atmosphere anyway when you’re a style blogger. A little bit extra in the hair and shoes and bra won’t hurt!
It was a treat to compete with Illvibe, as he was one of my favourite competitors from Season 2. It was also so surreal to meet CSP Live host Joseph Motiki, whom I grew up watching when he hosted TVOKids Crawlspace, back when I was no taller than that bicycle pump.
