Get the glasses: Warby Parker “Lily” in Rose Gold
Welcome to my rose gold visions in the form of a stunning cat-eye, lightweight titanium frame. To freshen up my look for spring/summer 2018, I’ve picked up tWarby Parker’s “Lily” eyeglasses to wear on my facey-face.
As mentioned in a previous review of another pair of Warby Parker’s eyeglasses, I am a fan and collector of eyewear. But the thing is I had found myself subconsciously reaching for the same styles over and over again: retro Clubmasters or frames with exaggerated end pieces. With these styles, I was hoping to achieve a flattering lift on the outer edges of my face, not realizing that the thick brow-line frame + oversized lens combination was actually doing the opposite and weighing down my look.
So here’s what I was looking for in a new pair of glasses:
- Flattering cat-eye shape to give my eyes a happy “lift”.
- Solid-colour frames so that I can wear them almost everything. All my previous frames were either two-toned or tortoise shell, and were just too busy to wear with some prints.
- Rose gold finish for a touch of brilliance to elevate my daily look. And sometimes because I’m a basic B with a rose gold obsession, let’s be real here.
Warby Parker’s “Lily” eyeglasses met that criteria and more.
The look: Subtle cat eyes with a reflective finish
As you can see, the cat-eye cut of these “Lily” glasses make my eyes look like they’re smiling (so I don’t have to)! Instead of the outer edges drooping downward or going straight across, they flick upward to provide balance to the low hang of the large lenses.
I also love the reflective finish, and I welcome anyone to look into them to check if they have food in their teeth.
The fit: Narrow, comfortable, secure
When I picked up my glasses at Warby Parker, the optometrist had me try them on to ensure a proper fit. So I said “Sure!” and whipped my head around in rapid circles then bowed forward and jumped up and down. It made a lot of noise and it was the most physical activity I’d had all day, but the glasses stayed on, woop!
“How is the fit?” The optometrist asked mechanically, keeping her eyes on the screen and ignoring my animated body making a scene in the store.
“Oh, my god, they’re staying on! How are they not falling off?” As I took the frames off my face, I noticed the little plastic pieces between the lenses. “Oh wow, it’s the nose pads. They’re so comfortable.”
“Y…e…s…” The optometrist nodded slowly, patiently waiting for me to wrap this shit up already.
I enthusiastically collected the rest of my belongings, strutted home in my fancy new specs, and went back to the “Lily” product page to find those glorious seven words: “PVC nose pads present slipping and pressure.”
Listen, as a girl with a low nose bridge, I appreciate when an eyewear brand puts extra thought into my nose pads. Especially when they make them non-slip and secure enough without digging into my nose and leaving bruise marks that look like a vampire bit me between the eyes.
The feel: Lightweight but durable
How do they feel? Well, they feel just like what they’re made of: a lightweight Japanese titanium that you can hardly feel on your face. In fact, I’d be interested to find out the exact weight of these frames because they’re easily the lightest pair of glasses I’ve owned.
But don’t let their delicate structure fool you. According to the Warby Parker site, these glasses are “made from the strongest, lightest ion-plated titanium” so that gives you a bit of assurance they won’t break so easily.
Final thoughts and rating: 4/5 stars
